You’ve no doubt heard the saying, “A bad workman blames his own tools.” Well the “tools” being blamed could be a host of things. It could be people, such as our work colleagues that are to blame for things not going right, for the situation we find ourselves in. It could be the company we work for, or our inabilty to find work or advance in our career. This is where a work or career tarot reading can help.

The Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck is the most popular and widely used tarot card deck in the world, printed from plates that were destroyed during the bombing of London during World War II. Full of symbolism and deeper meanings, Arthur E. Waite, the intellectual father of the Rider Waite deck, commented that ‘the true Tarot is symbolism; it speaks no other language and offers no other signs.’

If a Major Arcana card appears in you reading, heres what you need to know:

Major Arcana cards show up when things are happening that pull us towards a certain destiny or path. Many Major Arcana cards in a reading is often a sign that our Spirit Guides and Angels are working behind the scenes to set everything up for us so that we can live the lives we are destined to live. While the Minor Arcana cards focus on the everyday actions and decisions you must face, these Major Arcana cards reveal messages about the bigger picture of your life and its long-term direction. A major arcana card represents an energy that is deep, strong, decisive or long-term. When a major arcana card appears in a reading, you have tapped into a powerful energy in some area of your life. The minor arcana cards do not carry the same weight, but they are still important. They chart the ups and downs of daily life and register changes in feelings and thoughts. These dramas are gripping while they occur, but they pass with time as new concerns take their place.

The major arcana are signposts to things, events, and people, that are meant to be taken more seriously and looked at more closely, in general, than the minor arcana cards will generally represent.

Complete Book of Tarot: One way in which tarot readers use number symbolism is to select cards from the major arcana corresponding to the neurologically reduced numbers in one’s birth date. This calculation is made by adding together the day, month, and year of birth and continuing to add the individual digits in that sum, a method suggested by Mary K. Greer in her book Tarot for Your Self. 19 An example will make the process clear:

Portable Magic: The advantage of summoning the elemental spirit of a number card, rather than simply working a ritual to accomplish the desired purpose, is that an elemental is a conscious being able to adapt to changing circumstances and solve problems that relate to its function. A ritual constructed incorrectly may fail to achieve its purpose, but when an elemental is summoned, the magician can simply tell it what must be accomplished and the elemental will use its own ingenuity and initiative to achieve the objective. The more often a spirit is summoned, the easier it is to call forth, and the more effective its actions.

Portable Magic: The three founders were men of curious contrasts. Dr. William Robert Woodman (182891) was a senior Freemason of great authority who died shortly after the founding of the Golden Dawn, and so played little part in the development of its system of magic. He possessed a knowledge of Hebrew and the Kabbalah, and may have been in part responsible for the inclusion of the Kabbalah in the magic of the Golden Dawn. The other two remained close friends and worked together for many years. Each brought his unique talents forward in support of the Order. Dr. William Wynn Westcott (18481925) was by profession a London coroner. He possessed an extensive knowledge for his day of classical works on Hermetism and Greek philosophy. It is mainly due to his scholarship that the Kabbalah played so important a role in the Golden Dawn. Samuel Liddell Mathers (18541918), who called himself ‘MacGregor’ Mathers on the fanciful notion that he was descended from the Scottish royal bloodline, was a diligent seeker after occult manuscripts in the libraries of England and France. He spent much of his time immediately prior to the founding of the Order in the Reading Room of the British Museum, poring over crabbed, handwritten grimoires. It is to Mathers that the Golden Dawn owes its complex symbolic rituals and its eclectic blend of practical magic.
