Career, Work Or Retirement:

It’s possible that a pleasant surprise will be coming your way soon in regard to work. Although this could be a pay rise it is much more likely to take a different form. It could simply be something that makes your life easier. You may come up with some new systems or processes that make your work life simpler and less stressful. If you are in the process of (or even just thinking about) changing jobs then this is an auspicious time to keep your eyes and ears open for something new. If neither of those scenarios seem to fit then it is possible that there is a lot of workplace gossip going on. Ignore it and certainly don’t get involved in it. Not always easy to do of course as it is human nature to gossip but stay away if you can.

The High Priestess is a very spiritual card – often with sexual overtones. It can mean that you are in a phase where you are going to be much more physically attractive to others. She is tied to the moon, to femininity, and to inspiration.

Complete Book of Tarot: One day in a classroom discussion I mentioned that I was impressed by something I had read about astrology. The nun’s ears perked up, and a look of alarm spread across her face. Hadn’t the good sisters warned us that true prophecy comes from God and any other form of future casting is the work of the devil? Whatever is forbidden, however, becomes more appealing. It wasn’t long before I began to study astrology in earnest.

Reversed Cards: Here in the protection aspect, the High Priestess is protecting you from pieces of yourself, pieces of your soul that you are just not ready to deal with and own. But what gives her the right to do so? Good question. In healing work there is a method known to many shamans as soul retrieval. This is where you retrieve pieces of your shattered self from other pockets of time and space and bring them back to the present moment to heal your current self. Sometimes we are not ready to own those pieces or deal with the pain and trauma that created them to be fragmented in the first place. The High Priestess is not so much protecting you from the piece, just its story—the knowledge of the pain and soul lesson behind the trauma. When you see her in this aspect, she is lovingly saying, ‘You are not ready.’ Here in the protection aspect, the High Priestess holds that line between empowered healing and self-harm. She is your first line of defense against yourself. For that, we honor her when she shows herself in the protection aspect.

Reversed Cards: Here in the dark shadow aspect of the High Priestess, you get to tap into some deeper knowing. While you are unable to see with your reflective eyes, you can engage the intuitive eye. This may seem like a scary idea. You’re alone in the dark, and now you have to see through an eye that’s not really an eye to see a light that is somehow contained inside of you. This is not how we normally perceive ourselves in the world of things and objects. Which is kind of the point, because here in the shadow aspect there are no things. There is no time. Things have no real purpose. There is just you, the High Priestess, the dark, and your intuition.
