This is a powerful and hopeful card, promising energy, action and progress. One of the very important inner aspects of the Princess of Wands is the function in allowing us to leave old fears behind. The Princess of Wands represents the freedom we gain when we release old restrictions and habits, in order to forge forward into a future which is shaped more by ourselves, and less by outdated environments, and outmoded concepts. We often find, when we examine our motives and attitudes thoroughly, that somehow we have collected lots of emotional ‘garbage’ along the way. Sometimes we do not even realise this exists; other times we know these problems exist, but rarely take the time to examine how they affect us, what they deny us, how we limit ourselves by failing to clean them out.

So on a day ruled by Princess of Wands, we need to select one of our fears or habits, and really subject it to careful scrutiny. Take a good hard look at what this particular fear gives you in terms of support, and what it gives you in terms of damage. Try to isolate where it came from. And try not to run away from doing either of these things. Very often you will find that the fear or habit is rooted far in the past. You may well discover that it no longer has any relevance; that it takes away your freedom to choose your actions in a given area in your life. Once you’ve isolated your fear or habit, use the affirmation for all you’re worth. Make a mental image which encapsulates your fear. Make your image tiny. Visualise yourself throwing away that fear. And try to know yourself to be free of it.

Elements of the Psychic World
Book Details
Elements of the Psychic World: Former priory and home of the poet Lord Byron, located in Nottinghamshire, England, that is said to be haunted by several ghosts. The priory was built around 1170 for the Order of St Augustine and was bought in 1540 by Sir John Byron who turned it into a mansion. It remained the Byron family home for three centuries. According to superstition, turning a religious house into a house for secular use is a recipe for misfortune and over the years the Byron family experienced more than its fair share of bad luck and declining fortune.

Reversed Cards: When a small fire is built in the path of another fire so that the two meet in the middle, it is called back burning. This limits the fuel for the other fire and the distance it can travel, and the technique is utilized to restrict the damage a wildfire can cause. Think of this card the same way. The Page of Wands is inexperienced and doesn’t really have control over his magic. But with a little back burning to create a nice barrier around you, the page, and all you are working to create, you have space to make mistakes. Even if things do go amiss, your damage will be minimal. This card will stay in the retrograde aspect as long as it takes for you to learn the skills required at this phase of your new journey.

Tarot Triumphs: The Tarot Triumphs are evoked three times in this book. We shall meet them first of all in this imaginary public spectacle as it might have taken place on the streets of Northern Italy more than five hundred years ago. When we visualize them as large-scale and gloriously majestic figures, this keys us into not only the power of their images but also a significant cultural event that may have played a distinct part in the history of the Tarot.

Reversed Cards: Have you ever experienced a situation in which no matter what facts you put in front of someone, they are just not willing to budge from their set of beliefs? Instead, they cling to it like a badge of honor even if it means bringing harm, injustice, and suffering to others who do not share their specific belief system. This is the shadow side of the Hierophant, following blindly without question and turning a blind eye to the destruction this sort of faith causes. If you have received this card in a daily draw or spread, you might need to look at what beliefs you seem to be inflexible about and make sure that you are not responsible for the suffering of someone else because of them. Or maybe you are on the receiving end of someone else’s egocentric need to be right. Either way, the rigidity of beliefs and the consequences of your faith are being called into question. If you cannot hold the space for compassion and kindness for all in your life, then do not expect others to bestow it unto you.
