The Four of Cups is a card about wishful thinking. It warns us to remember to pay attention to what ‘is’ now, and the many blessings we each currently experience, and not to worry too much about ‘what could be.’ It is all too easy to overlook what we already have in the pursuit of what we don’t have.

Angel Insights : Oh my gosh!’ my brother said. ‘I was trying to trick you so I have been holding two cards at once. That time I held both green and yellow at the same time!’ My brother was only nine, but he had the emotional maturity to accept that what I was doing wasn’t something weird or bad, but just a natural talent. He was very complimentary to me about this ability and made me feel like it was something cool. My brother could not guess the color of one of those cards to save his life (we tried a lot). However, my brother is a natural athlete. Watching him play football growing up was really a pleasure for me, because it’s always fun to watch a person do something they do really well, and completely naturally. It is then that we are seeing their God-given talents, a glimpse of the divine. We can’t all be good at everything. How boring would that be? Having a few things we do really well can give us clues about our soul purposes, and let’s us contribute to the world by being of unique service to others.

Reversed Cards: My aim with this book is to give you more tools to work with when these upside-down, topsy-turvy cards dance into your readings. It is not a definitive work on reversals, as there are just as many ways to look at an upside-down card as there is a right-way-up card. It is, however, a start. It’s a beginning point to get you more comfortable with accessing the lessons, knowledge, and wisdom these types of cards bring to a reading. In many ways this is a beginner book, for it won’t deal with complex theories or higher levels of tarot understanding. It is merely a simple guide to exploring reversed cards, to make sense of cards that often leave the tarot newbies scratching their heads and wondering what it all means. In this book I will mainly be referencing Llewellyn’s Classic Tarot, for its closeness to the Rider-Waite-Smith deck. However, every so often I will make reference to other decks, including The Raven’s Prophecy Tarot. This deck has some outstanding images in reverse, though there is little to nothing about reversed cards in the companion book to this deck. If this book brings you more confidence and enthusiasm when dealing with reversed cards, then I have done my job with this text.
