35-King of Wands – Upright Rider Waite Deck

Your Chosen Card – King of Wands Upright Rider Waite Deck

Kings are mature accomplished individuals who are in charge of the matters related to their suit and element. They represent father figures, important men in the querent’s life and significant personality traits needed by the querent to navigate the situation. When upright, the King of Wands usually represents a person of authority who is in a leadership role and has excellent managerial skills. He is likely to be a mover and shaker with entrepreneurial interests and an abundance of enthusiasm. With his thoughtful leadership and fiery personality, he is good at directing other people to get things done.

Keywords Upright: Charismatic, adventurous, virile, enterprising, creative, assertive, strong-willed, dominant, forceful, energetic, proud, dignified, passionate, inspiring, sexy, confident, self-directed, responsible, inspiring, fond of challenge, ambitious, in charge; leadership, executive ability, king of the jungle, the boss.

Decans/Timing: 20 Cancer–20 Leo. Tropical, 12 July–12 August; sidereal, 06 September–07 October.
Astrology: Air of Fire. (Note the airy backdrop of blue sky, clouds, and mountain peaks in the distance. In the foreground, the hot dry dessert becomes a setting for the throne capped with the head of a lion. The salamander at the King’s feet is associated in mythology with Fire; the Central European ‘fire salamander’ has fiery golden-yellow markings on its back.)
Associated Trumps: The Chariot and the Sun.

Rider Waite: The physical and emotional nature to which this card is attributed is dark, ardent, lithe, animated, impassioned, noble. The King uplifts a flowering wand, and wears, like his three correspondences in the remaining suits, what is called a cap of maintenance beneath his crown. He connects with the symbol of the lion, which is emblazoned on the back of his throne. Divinatory Meanings: Dark man, friendly, countryman, generally married, honest and conscientious. The card always signifies honesty, and may mean news concerning an unexpected heritage to fall in before very long; (R) good, but severe; austere, yet tolerant.

When King of Wands is upright you can pretty much take it that life is going well but that’s when life takes us by surprise.  If King of Wands is unclear it may help to choose a card from the Major Arcana to provide more insight into what it is King of Wands is trying to tell you.  If you had a particular issue in  mind, or want to seek clarification on something else, you can also choose again to get more guidance.

Complete Book of Tarot: Ruled by the Sun, Leo comes fifth in the zodiac. Leo the Lion, a consolidating fixed sign, is associated with Strength, trump VIII. The King of Wands falls largely under Leo, a sign whose natives are characterized by these traits:

Creative Tarot: For Waite, there is a higher purpose for a person’s existence, and mysticism is a tool to find that purpose and follow it. To help that process along best, he would need a tarot deck that was designed with these goals specifically in mind. The deck, he thought, needed to be reworked with an emphasis on its symbolism and symbolism’s connection to the intuition. First, he needed an artist.
