Your Chosen Card – Fortune Upright Thoth Deck
When upright, the Wheel of Fortune reminds us that our good fortune is often the result of twists of fate rather than our own doing. Now is a time to enjoy your good luck because it can change just as rapidly tomorrow. If things are going well now, be sure to make the best of it and put something aside for a rainy day. For the time being, destiny is smiling upon you. Seize the moment because an opportunity that presents itself today may not remain available tomorrow. Contemplate the lyrics of the Pete Seeger song ‘Turn, Turn, Turn,’ which sets the biblical words to music: ‘To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven’ (Ecclesiastes 3:1, KJV).
Keywords Upright: Good luck, destiny, opportunities for advancement, an upward trend, seizing the moment, remaining open to opportunity, natural cycles, a turn for the better, seizing the moment, twists of fate, Lady Luck, the slings and arrows of fortune, time will tell, the acceptance of ones fate.
Key X: The Wheel of Fortune (Dame Fortune)
Myths/Archetypes: Lady Luck. Dame Fortune. The three Norns. The Fates of Greek mythology. The Soothsayer. The fickle finger of fate.
Astrology: Jupiter, the greater benefic. (Jupiter rules Sagittarius and Pisces)
Numerology: 1 (Magician) = 1 + 0 (Wheel of Fortune) = 1 + 9 (The Sun)
Hebrew letter: Kaph (the open palm of a hand; a Hebrew word meaning to open, bend, allow, tame, or to submit to anothers will; also, hollow or outstretched to receive something). Palm readers claim to read our fortune in the open palm of the hand. This card suggests that we may have no choice but to stretch ourselves out and submit to the turns of the wheel of fortune.
When Fortune is upright you can pretty much take it that life is going well but that’s when life takes us by surprise. If Fortune is unclear it may help to choose a card from the Major Arcana to provide more insight into what it is Fortune is trying to tell you. If you had a particular issue in mind, or want to seek clarification on something else, you can also choose again to get more guidance.

Here are some snippets from a few of my favorite books
Complete Book of Tarot: before we can address the question of where the tarot originated, we must clarify what we mean by the tarot. The Oxford Dictionary gives the following definition of tarot: ‘playing cards, traditionally a pack of 78 with five suits, used for fortune-telling and (especially in Europe) in certain games. The suits are typically swords, cups, coins (or pentacles), batons (or wands), and a permanent suit of trump.’2 We will examine this definition more carefully in the next chapter. For now, lets focus on where these seventy-eight cards came from.
World of Psychics: In the Thoth deck the camel at the base of the card always reminds me to hold out for what I want and the clear quartz crystals surrounding the priestess remind me to be sure about what I want! This card means divine guidance and a helping hand, but it can also warn me to make sure someone is what they say they are. If I have been overdoing things with the Tarot, this card often falls from the deck. Its one of two cards that I take to mean, Enough, put them away and get on with other things!
Complete Book of Tarot: To answer this question, I shuffled the tarot deck carefully and randomly drew four cards (four is the number of structure and organization) while focusing in a relaxed and open state of mind on the intention of receiving an answer to my question. Intention, as we shall see, plays a critical role in tarot reading. Shuffling the cards with sincere intention and expectation of receiving a helpful response is essential to the process. Insincere or frivolous questions result in a meaningless, random set of cards.
