Career, Work Or Retirement:
Things may be tense at work. Try not to contribute to the tension; think before you speak, be calm and unruffled as possible on the surface, at least. Get clear about the things you can and cannot control and try to give very little ‘mind-space’ to the latter. Do your best with the former, and things will very likely be well. If you’re wondering if your job may be eliminated, unfortunately, when this card appears, the answer can be yes. Forewarned is forearmed. If that happens, what will you do about it?
Card Meanings: Good Health, Learning From Past Failure, Courage, Backbone, Ongoing Battle, Guarded, Close To Success, Wounded, Nearly There, Not Working Out As Planned, Fatigue, Fight Your Corner, Last Stand, Drained Of Energy, Battle Weary, Perseverance, Persistence, Holding Out, Obstinacy, Setbacks, Expecting Trouble, Victory, Gather Your Strength
This is basically a very positive card, however as you move towards the highest cards in the suit, more complexity and difficulty can be indicated. The Nine of Wands is where some would say this begins. This card can indicate anxiety and worry – being burdened and keyed up over concerns.

Here are some snippets from a few of my favorite books
Complete Book of Tarot: This card shows a young artisan working diligently to create an object of beauty in cooperation with two individuals who respect his work and are willing to pay him well for his skilled labor. Here the tarot seems to be advising the student to master an area of her craft and establish a reputation for doing her work with diligence and expertise.

Reversed Cards: There is an aspect of the warrior in this card but not necessarily the victorious one. Here in the shadow aspect of the Nine of Wands you might be allowing yourself to be defined by how you have ‘overcome’ rather than by all the blessings you have received. It is easy to overlook the more positive aspects of ones experience when they seem so overshadowed by the negative. Yet you have to ask yourself, do you always want to be known as someone who gets bashed around, or as someone who seeks higher ground and is not attached to revenge or retribution?
Complete Book of Tarot: In the case of Bill Clinton, his birthday August 19, 1946 reduces as follows: 8 + 1 + 9 + 1 + 9 + 4 + 6 = 38, which reduces to 3 + 8 = 11 (Strength or Justice, his personality card). The number 11 then reduces to 1 + 1 = 2, the High Priestess (his soul card). Note that in the traditional tarot of Marseille, card XI was Strength (which Crowley renamed Lust). In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, card XI became Justice. One could argue that themes of strength, lust, and justice have characterized the life and personality of President Clinton.
