Faith, Spirituality Or Psychic Progression:

When this card appears reversed, it indicates a need for new experiences and perspectives and even new input into the way you think about and function with your spirituality. Its okay (and in fact, its desirable and healthy) for your spiritual approaches and thoughts to change over time. Try new things. Talk to people who see things differently than you do. You will both benefit.

The Magus is about making higher and better use of all of one’s power. Spiritual, emotional, and otherwise. This is another card that often signifies new beginnings and great expectations. This is a very powerful, positive omen in a reading. This card reminds us that we have the power to make a difference, in our lives and in the greater world, if we simply make a point to try. You should note that this is not magic in the sense that you need to do spell-work or anything of that nature. It’s also not ‘magic’ like a stage illusionist performs, which is the somewhat superficial appearance of wondrous feats. This is actual transformation of the literal and figurative world in normal ways. You are not going to have it all handed to you on a plate, but you have the potential to have that plate and a lot of what’s on it if you do the magic yourself. The Magus is all about action. If you do nothing you’ll get nothing. If you don’t know what to do then just do something because anything is better than nothing. In other words if you don’t try you won’t get.

Book Details
Elements of the Psychic World: A device used to seek out answers to questions about the past, present and future and messages f r o m ghosts, spirits and other entities in spiritualism. The name is taken from the French (oui) and the German (ja) words for ‘yes’ and it is often thought to be one of the most controversial methods of spirit communication because in untrained hands it is believed to attract evil spirits.

Angel Encyclopedia: Dominican inquisitors successfully blocked publication of the entire work but only temporarily. A spurious fourth book appeared in 1567, but it was denounced by Weyer. An English translation of Occult Philosophy, published in 1651, was plagiarized by the occultist FRANCIS BARRETT, who published a truncated version of it as his own book THE MAGUS in 1801. The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the premier magical fraternity of Western occultism, which flourished in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, used Occult Philosophy as a key source for much of its material.

Tarot Beginners Guide: Over the years that I have been using tarot cards, I have noticed that most people seem somewhat taken aback by a few of the major arcana cards, due to their illustrations and names, so I will state here and now that the cards called Hermit, Hanged Man, Death and Devil are nothing to be afraid of. Many people see the illustration for Death, for example, see the word Death, and assume it means that they are going to be killed in a road crash or something equally terrible. This is not the case; as we go through the meanings of the major arcana, you will see that there really is nothing to fear from these cards.

Angel Encyclopedia: The Magus stimulated a revival of interest in occultism; the great occultist Eliphas Levi was influenced by it. However, there is very little original material in the book. Barrett lifted material from the works of AGRIPPA, Peter of Albano, Jean Baptiste von Helmont, and other experts on alchemy and occultism. Barrett did contribute some new illustrations: portraits of various demons, which he may have seen while scrying.
