Book Details
Elements of the Psychic World: A patented form of astral travel devised by American guru Paul Twitchell (1908-1971). In a series of out-of-body experiences Twitchell claimed to have made contact with superior beings in the astral plane called the Eck Masters, who showed him this special technique for astral travel and taught him a series of complex, universal and comprehensive spiritual truths. It was on the basis of these truths that Twitchell founded the Eck-ankar organization in 1965: an international organization where followers can learn the truths and practise astral projection or ‘soul travel’ according to the methods and techniques revealed to Twitchell by the Eck Masters.

Reversed Cards: When we first come across something that excites us and gets our blood pumping, we notice how it makes us feel. Usually, pretty darn spectacular. That feeling can become addictive. Addiction is the downside of high. Addiction is an attachment in one of its purest forms. The ace is the beginning; it is the spark that ignites the rest of the fire. In this case, desire. The spark itself is not the shadow part, nor is the fire. The shadow part of desire is the attachment. So when the Ace of Wands shows up in the shadow aspect, you are being asked to examine your level of attachment to things you desire.

Tarot Triumphs: This kind of process may be mirrored to some degree in your own use of Tarot, in that it will evolve and be shaped by your own life experiences. Your personal relationship with the cards may be modified over the years. My first encounter, as I’ve described, was with the Rider-Waite pack, a vividly-colored and fully pictorial set of suits and Trumps all heavily imbued with esoteric symbolism. I marveled at it, was transported by it even. However, after a period of research and decades of using Tarot cards, this has evolved into a quieter sense of affection and respect for that particular pack, while on the other hand my interest in the symbolism of the Major Arcana of the Marseilles pack has grown and proved to be a more lasting flame. This is my Tarot of choice, and it is the version I feature in this book. It is the closest representation we have of the core of the Tarot tradition, and for this reason it remains a classic and, to my mind, offers the best way to try to understand the essence of Tarot.

Reversed Cards: Regardless of whether they are sharp or blunt, swords are designed to hurt. In inexperienced hands, you have to be careful what sort of harm your page can do. The problem with young, rebellious energy is that it often goes off half-cocked, and here in the shadow aspect, you don’t really seem to care who gets hurt. Just remember that a sword can do just as much harm to the person wielding it as it can to the intended target. So be very careful when this card shows up in the shadow aspect of your reading or daily draw.
