Career, Work Or Retirement:

Receiving the Magician in reverse can indicate a resistance to needed change when it comes to your working life. The truth is that nothing stays the same forever, change and newness is a part of life. Don’t cling to the past.

The Magician is about making higher and better use of all of one’s power. Spiritual, emotional, and otherwise. This is another card that often signifies new beginnings and great expectations. This is a very powerful, positive omen in a reading. This card reminds us that we have the power to make a difference, in our lives and in the greater world, if we simply make a point to try. You should note that this is not magic in the sense that you need to do spell-work or anything of that nature. It’s also not ‘magic’ like a stage illusionist performs, which is the somewhat superficial appearance of wondrous feats. This is actual transformation of the literal and figurative world in normal ways. You are not going to have it all handed to you on a plate, but you have the potential to have that plate and a lot of what’s on it if you do the magic yourself. The Magician is all about action. If you do nothing you’ll get nothing. If you don’t know what to do then just do something because anything is better than nothing. In other words if you don’t try you won’t get.

Portable Magic: First to be erected is the altar of the elements, which is the elevated stage for the significator. It must be built before the significator can occupy it. Think of the working surface as the endless sea of primordial chaos, and the altar as a firm ledge of rock that rises above the surface of those waters. It is the first tangible thing to be formed in the ritual process. It arises from the central point where the bases of the tarot cards touch and overlap. All points are the same, being without dimension and undifferentiated, and in this sense all are connected. The point at the centre of the altar of the

Portable Magic: An elemental spirit is called forth to perceptible presence, or evoked, within the triangle using the same general ritual that serves to establish a sustained communication with a living person, or with the soul of a person who has died. In all three instances, the goal is to forge a link with another intelligent being. Calling forth the elemental into the triangle creates a separation between the magician and the spirit, who occupy the astral place on opposite sides of the magic circle. The channel of communication is established through the vortex at the centre of the altar, and the vortex at the centre of the triangle, which are connected on the higher level of spirit above the astral level. It is not possible for the elemental to travel through these point doorways and gain entrance into the circle, unless you deliberately open the way for the spirit and explicitly invite the spirit into the circle.

Creative Tarot: The Golden Dawn actually didn’t last very long. Infighting and power plays, mostly by the male members, splintered the group. Its most famous member was perhaps the Irish poet William Butler Yeats, who remained interested in and engaged with magical systems until his death. The writer and magician Aleister Crowley is often associated with the group, but he was quickly ejected from its ranks for being a terrible person. (This is a fact, he was a terrible person. Look it up.) But two of its lesser-known members would spread the influence of the tarot far and wide: writer Arthur Edward Waite and artist Pamela Colman Smith.

Portable Magic: A series of actions designed to achieve a purpose through magic. Effective rituals occur on two levels simultaneously, the physical level and the astral level. The actions of ritual on the astral level often mirror the physical actions of the magician, but it is possible for the physical actions and the astral actions to be different, provided they are symbolically associated or linked. The difference between
