Career, Work Or Retirement:

The reversed Ten of Wands is a hint that you may be best served by seeking a new employment situation if you are currently working and unhappy in your job situation. You may literally be being mistreated, and even in a tight job market, you don’t have to stand for that. Take things one moment at a time, and think through what has been happening. Don’t take injustice personally, but don’t feel that you have to put up with it forever, either. The best solution may simply be to leave.

Card Meanings: Duty-Bound, No Stamina, Cleverness, Off-Loading, Insurmountable Problems, Collapse, Strength, Breakdown, Flogging A Dead Horse, Dumping, Shirking Duties/Responsibilities, Energy, Too Much Responsibility/ Stress, Learning To Say No, Working Hard But Getting Nowhere, Resigned To Fate, Not Up To The Challenge, Cross Too Heavy To Bear

When the Ten of Wands appears, you may feel as though you are carrying a very heavy burden. You may want to look hard at this and see if there are any ways that you might lighten your load either literally or figuratively. If you look carefully you may find that part of the burden you are carrying emotionally actually belongs to someone else. It will be important for you to pace yourself now. Don’t try to do too much.

Book Details
Portable Magic: In my opinion, Crowley’s change has not withstood the test of time. I reject it. However, I believe that the Golden Dawn arrangement, though workable from the standpoint of practical magic, is also imperfect. I will not give my personal amendments to the Golden Dawn correspondences in the body of the text of this book, because I do not wish to confuse readers. It is best to learn the Golden Dawn system before departing from it. All the descriptions and examples in the text are based on the Golden Dawn Tarot correspondences. However, as a matter of interest, I have included my amendments to the correspondences in the appendix, along with my reasons for making them. Those who wish to do so may use these altered correspondences in their own Tarot magic.

Creative Tarot: The Ten of Wands, then, can show up as a warning. It also asks you to interrogate the dark side of passion. How the trajectory of the Wands, which starts off so promising, so exciting, ends up in such a disappointing state.

Tarot Triumphs: There are other possible cultural attributes for the Tarot Hermit too; the lantern he carries may relate to Diogenes, the Greek philosopher and a hermit himself, who famously held up a lamp in broad daylight in his search for an honest man.30 Or he may be an embodiment of Saturn in his role as Lord of Time, where he appears in some of the earliest Tarot representations with an hourglass instead of a lamp.31

Reversed Cards: The sevens are a very interesting group of cards. In numerology, seven is often referred to as the master/student number as well as the rest and retreat number. A lot of people don’t think of seven as much of an action number, but the truth is the seven is all about the process of movement. It teaches us when to move, when to be still, when to retreat, and when to inspire action via leadership. As we saw in the chariot, for a so-called passive number the seven sure has a lot to teach us about action, momentum, direction, and distraction. Sevens are naturally quieter than other numbers, but don’t let that fool you. Quiet consistency is what moves mountains. A seven may not need to be flashy to get a result, but that doesn’t mean the results aren’t fabulous. The biggest challenge for the seven is lacking intellectual stimulation. Being a very cerebral number by nature, a seven can get bored easily, which means it gets distracted easily and often. When a seven wanders into your life, you will need to be mindful of staying on task and all the little things that can pull you off course.
