With deep rich colors, subdued by subtle shades of red/orange, the overall look is dark as you would expect from a deck loosely designed to reflect the witch periods of Salem. The Salem Tarot is a deck of magic and destiny. Within its 78 cards lies the souls path from birth to death and beyond. It’s uses pagan and medieval imagery and each card has subtle flashbacks to the times of Salem and the witch trials.
If a Athames card appears in you reading, heres what you need to know:
The Suit of Athames is associated with action, change, force, power, oppression, ambition, courage and conflict. Action can be both constructive and/or destructive, sometimes resulting in violence. This suit can also mean hatred, battle, and enemies, and of all the suits, this one is considered to be the most powerful and dangerous. The Suit of Athames deals with the mental level of consciousness that is centred around the mind and the intellect. Athames mirror the quality of mind present in your thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs. Athames themselves are double-edged and in this way the Suit of Athames symbolises the fine balance between intellect and power and how these two elements can be used for good or evil. As such, the Athames must be balanced by spirit (Wands) and feeling (Chalices). The negative aspects of the Suit of Athames (i.e. when the Athames cards appear reversed) include anger, guilt, harsh judgement, a lack of compassion and verbal and mental abuse.
Ideas, communication, mental dexterity, mental challenges, talking, writing, truths/untruths.

Here are some short extracts from my favorite books to give you a feel for the book.
Complete Book of Tarot: Air: communication, sharing ideas, inquisitiveness, mental agility, interrelationships, connecting the dots, logic, wit, cool objectivity, quickness, cunning, persuasion, strategy, thoughts, words, intellect; the suit of Swords; the Air signs Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.
Portable Magic: The advantage of summoning the elemental spirit of a number card, rather than simply working a ritual to accomplish the desired purpose, is that an elemental is a conscious being able to adapt to changing circumstances and solve problems that relate to its function. A ritual constructed incorrectly may fail to achieve its purpose, but when an elemental is summoned, the magician can simply tell it what must be accomplished and the elemental will use its own ingenuity and initiative to achieve the objective. The more often a spirit is summoned, the easier it is to call forth, and the more effective its actions.
Portable Magic: The three founders were men of curious contrasts. Dr. William Robert Woodman (182891) was a senior Freemason of great authority who died shortly after the founding of the Golden Dawn, and so played little part in the development of its system of magic. He possessed a knowledge of Hebrew and the Kabbalah, and may have been in part responsible for the inclusion of the Kabbalah in the magic of the Golden Dawn. The other two remained close friends and worked together for many years. Each brought his unique talents forward in support of the Order. Dr. William Wynn Westcott (18481925) was by profession a London coroner. He possessed an extensive knowledge for his day of classical works on Hermetism and Greek philosophy. It is mainly due to his scholarship that the Kabbalah played so important a role in the Golden Dawn. Samuel Liddell Mathers (18541918), who called himself ‘MacGregor’ Mathers on the fanciful notion that he was descended from the Scottish royal bloodline, was a diligent seeker after occult manuscripts in the libraries of England and France. He spent much of his time immediately prior to the founding of the Order in the Reading Room of the British Museum, poring over crabbed, handwritten grimoires. It is to Mathers that the Golden Dawn owes its complex symbolic rituals and its eclectic blend of practical magic.
