24-Three of Wands – Upright Thoth Deck

Your Chosen Card – Three of Wands Upright Thoth Deck

When upright, the Three of Wands shows a man looking out to sea, watching his ships departing or coming in, perhaps carrying goods from a strategically planned business venture. This man and his partners, if he has any, have set realistic goals and acted with foresight. There is every expectation that this cooperative enterprise will succeed; but, to make sure, he is carefully overseeing each step of the process. When this card appears, you are given the green light to expand your horizons and plant the seeds for future success. The number 3 often refers to cooperative ventures, that is, to two or more people pooling their efforts over a period of time to create something new (for example, a married couple having a baby).

Keywords Upright: Enterprise, foresight, cooperation in business, trade, commerce, launching a new venture, exploring possibilities, creating something new, awaiting results, maximizing chances of success, long-range planning, realistic goals, collaborating with others to pursue a goal, embarking on a new course of action, taking a calculated risk, the end of troubles, your ships departing or coming in.

Timing: 10 Aries–20 Aries. Tropical, 30 March–9 April. Sidereal, 24 April–3 May
Astrology: The mighty Sun (exalted) in the second decan of fiery Aries, realm of the Queen of Wands (Water of Fire) and the Emperor (Aries). The exaltation of the Sun in Aries enhances its power, virtue, pride and strength.
Number Symbolism: 3 – fertility, a creative environment, a triadic relationship, the first fruits of a joint venture.

Crowley/Thoth: Virtue, power, established strength, pride, arrogance.

When Three of Wands is upright you can pretty much take it that life is going well but that’s when life takes us by surprise.  If Three of Wands is unclear it may help to choose a card from the Major Arcana to provide more insight into what it is Three of Wands is trying to tell you.  If you had a particular issue in  mind, or want to seek clarification on something else, you can also choose again to get more guidance.

Tarot Books

Creative Tarot: Let’s look for a minute at the Celtic Cross. It is the standard tarot spread; probably the one most in use around the world. The cards are arranged in two forms: a cross to the left, and a tower to the right. The cards in the cross illuminate a person’s motivations, what she is thinking and feeling, where she has been, and where she is going. The tower names the character with a card that represents the querent—the fancy tarot term for the person asking the question—directly and provides an ending to the story with the final outcome card.

Complete Book of Tarot: A tarot enthusiast I know has collected more than a thousand different decks, and there are countless others on the market. Many tarot decks focus on a particular theme and appeal to a specific audience. For example, there is an Herbal Tarot for those interested in the healing properties of herbs, a Tarot of the Cat People that combines science fiction and fantasy, a Ghosts & Spirits Tarot for those interested in the supernatural, a Halloween Tarot that follows the adventures of a black cat on Halloween, not to mention a Jungian Tarot, a Housewives Tarot, a Kama Sutra Tarot (rated X), a Steampunk Tarot, a Zombie Tarot, and even a Quantum Tarot for people interested in modern physics. Whatever tickles your fancy, there is probably a tarot deck designed with you in mind.

Tarot Triumphs: How you store your Tarot cards is a matter of personal preference. Some people like to wrap the deck in silk (black silk is said to preserve their energies best). Others might consider it enough to put them back in the cardboard case in which they are sold, or even just cheerfully put a rubber band around them and drop them back in the drawer! Long ago, I had a Tarot box made for me in Morocco out of cedar wood, crafted to my design with Tarot symbols inlaid on the lid. I recall watching the craftsman cut slivers off an old tin can to make the silver decorations! I still have it, and use it, but I don’t consider it essential. I do like to house my Tarot carefully and with respect, but I believe that the important thing is to build up a relationship with the cards, and with one or two packs in particular. The way you keep them is really up to you.
