Faith, Spirituality Or Psychic Progression:

The Three of Swords again indicates that things may not be entirely clear to you in the spiritual realm. Be wary if you meet new people who claim to have ‘all the answers’ spiritually. Their answers may not be your answers. There’s no harm in exploring different spiritual understandings and traditions, however, this is probably not the time to commit to any of them.

Card Meanings: Overcoming Grief/ Sorrow/ Sadness, Repressing Emotions, Getting Over The Worst, Confusion, Reconciliation, Compromise, Suppressing Memories, Sorrow, Sharing Problems, Releasing Pain, Optimism, Overcoming Depression, Loss, Recovering From Heartbreak, Forgiveness, Inability To Let Go Of Pain

Regardless of the way that the Three of Swords card is depicted, know that it is not all bad. Although there is an element of sorrow that is undeniable when this card appears, what lies on the other side of this sorrow can be enhanced understanding and joy. Allow yourself to fully experience any sorrow or pain that comes up now, so that you can move beyond it.

Book Details
Elements of the Psychic World: Barbanell was born on 3 May 1902 in London. As a young man he was an atheist and sceptical of spiritualist claims but this changed when he attended a home circle with a medium known as Mrs Blaustein and discovered that he had became a medium for a Native American spirit. Barbanell formed his own home circle, which met in secret for several years. At this early stage the name of the spirit communicating through Barbanell was kept confidential.

Creative Tarot: The game the cards were designed for, the tarocco, has been lost to time. You don’t see people playing it anymore. But even as people lost interest in the game, the deck remained. As the tarot cards spread and were adapted by different cities and different cultures, new variations appeared. We still have many examples of these early decks, and many of the distinctive choices of imagery were developed in the fifteenth century and are still found in contemporary decks. The distinctive shape of the Hanged Man’s legs—forming a 4, with one straight leg and one bent knee—can be found in the fifteenth-century Visconti-Sforza deck. The pierced heart of the Three of Swords can also be found in the sixteenth-century Sola Busca deck, originating probably in Venice.

Tarot Triumphs: I offer in this chapter one straightforward way of dividing up the twenty-two Triumphs as three sets of seven plus one. You may remember the encounter with Raz, one of my three Tarot masters, which I described in the first chapter. He introduced me to this notion that the twenty-one numbered cards can be seen as three sets of seven, in this case following each other in sequence, as in a large circle. The three sets thus form three segments of this circle, each with its own qualities, but together making one complete cycle. The Fool presides at the center of the circle.

Reversed Cards: Whether we like to admit it or not, there is an insidious side to ‘busyness.’ It makes us unattainable, disconnects us from people, places, and things we don’t want to deal with, and removes us from responsibilities outside our busy work. But at the end of the day, busyness is an excuse—one that deliberately stops you from engaging with others and taking responsibility for the state of your relationships and your current life energy. You may be using this excuse to shut people out, block movement, and keep them at arm’s length. When this card shows up in the shadow aspect, make sure you are not using it as a weapon to inflict pain on those around you and yourself.
