Career, Work Or Retirement:

Although you may be surrounded by and/or receiving advice from some very solid, and helpful, and savvy mentor(s), when the Hierophant appears reversed you may need to agree to disagree with at least one of them on at least one point. To thine own self be true. That is crucial now.

Card Meanings: Unconventional Relationships, Vulnerability, Unorthodoxy, Challenging Tradition, Foolish Generosity, Unconventionality, Frailty, Unconventional Lifestyles, Reversed Roles, Impotence

The Hierophant is very much about ‘doing the right thing.’ You may be struggling with an issue and are unsure about what is ‘right’ for you to do. Know that the answers are within you. Remember that the ‘right’ thing is what is right for you also.

Portable Magic
Book Details
Portable Magic: A younger man or youth of an honourable and generous nature, fond of practical jokes, romantic, opinionated, and argumentative, who sometimes acts without thinking. His worst qualities are a tendency to be boastful and to avoid hard work, and indifference to the suffering of others.

Reversed Cards: Have you ever experienced a situation in which no matter what facts you put in front of someone, they are just not willing to budge from their set of beliefs? Instead, they cling to it like a badge of honor even if it means bringing harm, injustice, and suffering to others who do not share their specific belief system. This is the shadow side of the Hierophant, following blindly without question and turning a blind eye to the destruction this sort of faith causes. If you have received this card in a daily draw or spread, you might need to look at what beliefs you seem to be inflexible about and make sure that you are not responsible for the suffering of someone else because of them. Or maybe you are on the receiving end of someone else’s egocentric need to be right. Either way, the rigidity of beliefs and the consequences of your faith are being called into question. If you cannot hold the space for compassion and kindness for all in your life, then do not expect others to bestow it unto you.

Tarot Triumphs: The earliest Tarot cards that survive come from Italy in the mid-fifteenth century. Several incomplete sets, which were exquisitely painted for aristocratic patrons such as the prominent Sforza and Visconti families, are still preserved. It was initially thought that one very fine deck originated earlier, in late fourteenth-century France, but this pack, still referred to as the Charles VI Tarot, is now more reliably designated as Italian. It was possibly made in Ferrara and is dated to the fifteenth century. Italy thus seems to have played a key role, if not the key role, in launching the Tarot in Europe. The Tarot Trumps known from this time are not numbered, and they are not always named either. Illustrations of many of these early examples are gorgeous and can quite easily be found online.

Reversed Cards: The moon offers us one of the most amazing mirrors we could possibly look into: our dreams. Each and every night the moon sets the stage for a reflective show like no other. For most people, their dream time is random, unintentional, and often just a repeat of the day that has now passed. But for others, this sacred reflective space is a mirror for answers, communication, and deliberate creation. Wayne Dyer once said that he would set the intention for his dreams before he went to sleep each and every night and that the last thought you send out before you drift off to sleep is the one that God hears the loudest. Do you know what messages you share with God the loudest? If you have received the Moon in the mirror aspect, you are being asked to become aware of your dreams. If you hear this reminder a lot, like I myself do, it is because you are not being as mindful and aware of the creative space the Moon is providing for you. Try doing the Wayne Dyer exercise and thinking intentionally before you head off to sleep. Make sure that mother/father/god hears only that which you want to experience more of and not what you only want to whine about. Tonight practice setting the intention for guidance and assistance in your dreams. It won’t be easy, but with a little practice and a little time, you too will learn how to explore the magical mirror aspect of the Moon card.
