Career, Work Or Retirement:

In the context of work, The reversed Five can show that you may be shooting your own self in the foot. Do not create conflict where none exists if you remotely want to keep your job, and do not escalate conflicts that are already there, unnecessarily. Accept situations as they are, unless something illegal or immoral is happening, and if it’s the latter, consider making a report to the appropriate authorities. Some problems are too big to try to solve on your own.

Card Meanings: Revenge, Communication, Regret, Shame, Loss, Ending Conflict, Compromise, Overcoming Challenge, Escalating Violence, Defeat, Uncovered Crime, Major Sacrifice, Unfairness, Humiliation, Releasing Stress, Moving On, Risk Everything, Peaceful Resolution, Relentless, Remorse, Not Heeding Warnings, Arrest, Held Accountable

When the Five of Swords appears, you are likely to find yourself with some mixed feelings about life in general and about a few people in particular. Don’t ignore these, but don’t feel like you have to speak every word you’re thinking and feeling either, as you could ruin the very things that you want the most – such as close, intimate relationships with your friends and lover. Think several times before you really let someone have it even if they deserve it. Pick your battles.

Portable Magic: During rituals the magician will usually stand in the middle of the altar on the astral level, the central position represented physically by the central placement of the significator. However, the cross shape of the altar in Tarot magic has the advantage of allowing the magician to occupy one of its arms on the astral level in order to work magic that uses the power of only a single element the evocation of an elemental spirit, for example. Creative Tarot: There is some cruelty in the Five of Swords, and so often when we pull the Six, we are still feeling hurt. We might be back to work, but we can be so sad about what we just came through that we almost don’t notice. Or care. “Oh, this again,” we think. But when we settle in to do the work, at least we are able to do it.

Tarot Triumphs: I would also like to credit the jongleurs as possible creators or transmitters of Tarot. These were medieval traveling entertainers who could juggle, sing, perform acrobatics, play instruments, act, tell stories, and even tame animals.14 Their profession overlapped with that of the troubadours or trouvères of southern France, whose poetry and music were on the whole more high-flown, but who shared the roaming, performing, marvel-seeking, and wonder-creating characteristics of the jongleurs.

Reversed Cards: In my coaching practice, I have discovered that people don’t actually have a fear of failure. They have a fear of success. Success brings change, oftentimes life-altering change. It also brings with it high expectations and more responsibility. This change scares the crap out of most people, which is why they hit the panic button when they find themselves on the precipice of amazing life-altering success. I have seen time and time again just how quickly and effortlessly people blow their chances at this final point in the game. How they run away scared and go back to the safety blanket of the life they have said they don’t want. You now find yourself in the shadow aspect of the World card, clinging to the safety of what you know and terrified by the unknown your personal success will inevitable bring. This is neither a good thing nor bad thing. It’s just a thing, a moment. One you get to choose. Just make sure you are conscious about the choice you are making. Believe it or not, success doesn’t come easy to everyone. In my experience, only a very small handful of people seek success out only to smash it in the face time and time again. These people love the change and challenges success brings to their world. But if this is not you, that’s okay. Just be honest, own it, and move on.
