Career, Work Or Retirement:

With the Three of Cups reversed, it’s important to consider how your personal relationships are going at work. Envy or jealousy can be an issue now. The mood in general in your working world should be relatively pleasant. If you are looking for work, you should be quite successful (perhaps surprisingly so) at how well things work out for you. So don’t give up.

Card Meanings: Lack Of Friends, Overindulgence, Miscarriage, Cancelled Celebrations, Over Indulgence, Pain, Gossip, Termination, Broken Engagements, Lack Of Social Life, Gossiping, Hidden, Cheating, Bitchiness, Cancelled Weddings

The Three of Cups is often considered to be a card of ‘reunions.’ But this is not always a romantic reunion, alas it’s reunion in the broadest sense, running back into (or meeting with, purposefully) someone or something that you have been away from for some time. It’s generally considered to be a happy reunion, an upbeat card.

Portable Magic: Conjunction: When two modifiers are laid together on the trump of the same sign, they are in conjunction. The separation between them is zero degrees. The planetary trump that is placed on top is dominant over the planetary trump it covers. Its action will guide and control the combined working of the two modifiers. The trumps of two planets in the same sign always act together in unison, whether they are in harmony or there is a dynamic tension between them. The action of one invariably affects the action of the other, so that it is difficult to consider them separately. Sometimes planets in conjunction neutralize each other.

Creative Tarot: The Three of Cups is specifically about female friendship. That does not mean the card isn’t relevant to you men out there reading this. Men should have women friends, too. There is a lightness, an empathy, and a strong connection between lifelong female friends. They pick you up when you’re down, they will talk you through your problems, they will bring you champagne when you have something worth celebrating. (If your friends are good enough, they will look at just about everything you do as worthy of celebrating with champagne.)

Tarot Triumphs: These Triumphs on parade showed worldly, moral, and religious emblems, which drew on allegory, history, and Christian teachings for their values. A Triumph procession is described in Petrarch’s work I Trionfi, dating from the late fourteenth century, which alludes to vices and virtues and draws from popular symbolism in representing the characters taking part in the procession.11 As we saw in chapter one, the idea of the Tarot Trumps emerging one by one along the city street as a spectacle is a colorful and powerful one, and it does resonate with the kind of images that Tarot embodies. But which came first, and whether the Tarot corresponds exactly to a painted form of the spectacle, is a moot point. We should certainly consider the influence of this kind of pageant, and the motifs it included, but in my view this is likely to have been just one strand of Tarot history.

Reversed Cards: Considering this card’s upright meaning, it is not hard to see why this card is associated with Pluto and Scorpio, the planet and sign of rebirth, forgiveness, and release. When Pluto, Scorpio, and Judgment are upright and flowing, they bring with them tremendous transformation. But that does not mean that transformation cannot be found in the retrograde aspect. Indeed, sometimes in order to go forward we first need to go backward. Take a good look at the cards that surround this card, as they give you clear clues to issues that are presenting themselves yet again. These cards will also give you clues to how to move forward. It is also a good idea to journal on when and where this energy has come up in your life before. Journal on how it has shown up differently or similarly this time around. List all the judgments you have made about yourself and others regarding this issue or situation. Make time to meditate on forgiveness for all involved.
