Part of the inner lore of the Lord of Science is depicted most clearly on the Ryder Waite deck of Tarot cards, where you will find that a family sits in a small boat, which is being poled across a river by the father of the family. This is a symbolic journey away from the Land of Unreason to the Promised Land (you’ll notice the connection here with the exodus of the Jews from Egypt). And it is within this hidden lore that we can discover much about the influence of the 6 of Swords. Interpretatively, the card indicates a period where the querent is sailing into safe haven after having had a bit of a bumpy ride. There is a sense of tranquillity and ease…..a lifting of burdens….a time for rest and recovery here. The concept of crossing the river is one that turns up again and again in mythology. Psychologically, the river can be taken to indicate the flow of the subconscious, emotional Self, whilst the fragile craft in which we travel may be taken as the strivings we make toward spirituality. This can often be tossed about by rapid flowing, ever-changing feelings…..but in the end, with sufficient determination, we can indeed reach the shores on the farther side of the river.

So, on a day ruled by the Lord of Science, we need to regard ourselves as moving into calmer waters. Problems must be approached rationally, and objectively. Emotional swings will be better curbed than indulged. Thus we shall find new and different solutions to difficulties. We shall see things clearly, get issues into sharp focus and perhaps establish new perspectives. We must strive to climb for the higher ground, so as to get an overview on life which allows us to see its overall pattern. Reach for whatever you consider to be the Gods on a day like today….stretch upwards and outwards, and attempt to consciously make contact with the Higher Powers of our Universe. Try to get a broader perspective on the whole idea of life….. And allow your tensions to slide away, minimised by the grand view you are able to achieve!

Elements of the Psychic World: Practised in India for over a thousand years, head massage has a number of health benefits: it stimulates blood and lymph circulation; it releases tension and stress and can help with the pain of migraines. Last but by no means least, it is incredibly relaxing and most people report feeling calmer and more energized after a head massage.

Reversed Cards: The Six of Swords card is often referred to as the card that makes the crossing through the underworld, or, to put it another way, the journey of the dead. What in your life is now dead? Perhaps a relationship is done with. Maybe your idea or goal is better sent far, far away. Or maybe you are the one hanging on to something that is desperate to get away! In the shadow aspect of this card, you are being asked to explore your resistance to a current situation, problem, or conflict. Why are you dragging it out, and what reason do you have to stop the natural flow of beginnings and endings?

Elements of the Psychic World: In Tarot divination, results can be achieved with analysis of just one card, but for more thoroughness combinations of several cards in set patterns are usually used. These patterns are called spreads. There are many, many spreads, although the Celtic Cross is often taught to beginners as their first spread. More experienced practioners will use their own spreads, assigning their own meanings to the relevant positions represented.

Elements of the Psychic World: ESP cards were first used in the 1930s by J B Rhine and Karl Zener, faculty members of Duke University in North Carolina, and soon replaced the playing cards that had been used previously to test for ESP. Rhine used the cards in thousands of tests and found eight subjects with consistently high scores. He published the results in 1934 in a controversial pamphlet called Extra Sensory Perception. Critics argued that the results were invalid as there was too much potential for fraud and for picking up of sensory clues such as body language.
