Finance, Money Matters Or Debt:

When The reversed Four of Coins appears, it can show that you are finally getting beyond your worries about money, because you will have realized that your worry isn’t helping you. You can make a difference in your financial situation, if you let go of your fear and get moving.

Card Meanings: Shedding The Old, Financial Insecurity/ Instability, Obstacles, Spendthrift, Letting Go Of People, Financial Loss, Generosity, Generous To A Fault, Losing Something Valuable, Sharing, Reckless Behaviour, Openness, Making Large Purchases, Possessions Or Issues, Gambling, Earthy Possessions, Lack Of Control, Giving To Others

The Four of Coins can be a card about holding on to things, people, money, or situations longer than is healthy or realistic. When this card appears in a reading, it’s a sure sign that you must look carefully at what you are clinging to, and whether others are clinging to you in an unhealthy way. Relax.

Reversed Cards: When things aren’t going well, everyone wants to blame Mercury retrograde, even if it’s not a Mercury retrograde cycle. Well, guess what? This time you do get to blame Mercury. In this aspect, we see Mercury mixing its signals when it comes to money, health, and resources. This can prove deeply frustrating, especially when you seem to fall short of your expectations, but just like every Mercury retrograde cycle, this reversal of the Ten of Pentacles won’t last long. Soon you will see that this shortfall was actually a blessing.

Creative Tarot: If you are a person who needs structure and limitations—some sort of outside stress—in order to do your best work, you’ll see the Four of Coins as a positive card. When Eleanor Catton began work on her Man Booker Prize–winning novel The Luminaries, she immediately went about putting very tight restrictions on her work. By setting her novel in a specific time and place, and creating an astrological chart for each character, her freedom to do whatever she liked with these men and women was suddenly very restricted: the characters could behave only in the way that their natal charts, and the movements of the planets at that time, allowed.

Tarot Triumphs: If we look again at the patterning of the layout, we can find two more triads, facing left and right, with the cards in the vertical center line partaking of both. These triads are closely associated with the idea of time and also show the unified sense of time governing the whole reading. This center line is the now, the temporal aspect of our lives running from past to present to future. From the standpoint of now, we can look both backward as we remember and forward as we project into the future. But the top and bottom cards of the reading, where these two triads conjoin, also indicate that there are factors that stand beyond the normal flow of chronological time. Usually, in a reading the question or situation does not cover a very long period of time—a few years at most—so we don’t have to dig too deep to understand how two Tarot symbols may represent the essence of this entire time span. For instance, if the Lover sits at the top of the reading and the Devil at the bottom, then it is clear that for the entire time span of this reading the querent has been almost literally stuck on the horns of a dilemma. And if the rest of the spread indicates that this is indeed a difficult situation, then the Tarot reader might look for ways in which this tension can be released: how to act so that the arrow is finally fired and the decision made, and how to dismiss the Devil from his over-exalted perch in the person’s psyche, where he perhaps represents domination by guilt or past obligations.
