Reversed Cards: The Five of Pentacles can often show a time of disconnection. In the upright position this may very well have been unintended or even unwanted, but here in the protection aspect it is actually done deliberately. The card is the closest we can get in the tarot to showing how to step outside the boundaries of social convention. Think of it as getting off the conveyor belt of life just long enough to reboot, reset, and possibly find other ways of experiencing your physical journey. Not everything about our modern world is helpful or enriching. Oftentimes the world can be restricting, cruel, and dehumanizing. Use the Five of Pentacles in the protection aspect as a respite, not a permanent solution.
Tarot Triumphs: Should you read cards for money? This is a decision everyone has to make for themselves. Personally, I do not accept payment. For the reasons just set out, I feel that reading the cards is dependent upon knowledge that I do not own, but is rooted in the spirit of the moment, which I do not engender. I have given my time, and some effort, to make the reading, but I am recompensed by the experience of doing it. Nor do I want to be bound to the terms of a commercial service, where the money must be equated with the value of the goods provided. I can’t guarantee the results. Many people do read the Tarot professionally, and I won’t argue with their choice. But in the tradition I have followed, we pass on knowledge as best we can without looking for financial gain.
