05-The Hierophant – Upright Thoth Deck

Your Chosen Card – The Hierophant Upright Thoth Deck

When upright, the High Priest is a wise, spiritually oriented guide to whom the querent has recourse. This person may be a kindly teacher, a mentor, or a spiritual adviser, not infrequently connected with a religious or academic setting. One role of the Hierophant is to perform sacred rites that pass traditional wisdom on to the next generation. The High Priest often officiates at ceremonies such as weddings, baptisms, bar mitzvahs, funerals, and the like. Because this priestly figure has authority to unite (‘hook’) couples in matrimony, this card can be a harbinger of marriage. In any case, when the Hierophant appears in a reading, you are likely to be dealing with the traditional values of your family, culture, or religion.

When The Hierophant is upright you can pretty much take it that life is going well but that’s when life takes us by surprise.  If The Hierophant is unclear it may help to choose a card from the Major Arcana to provide more insight into what it is The Hierophant is trying to tell you.  If you had a particular issue in  mind, or want to seek clarification on something else, you can also choose again to get more guidance.

Complete Book of Tarot: Some clients use the tarot regularly for meditation and spiritual enlightenment. When a querent has no specific question in mind, one can do a general reading to suggest issues that are currently important for the querent to ponder. General readings often highlight concerns that warrant further exploration. For example, the Chariot might indicate plans to buy or sell a car, the Hierophant might presage a church wedding, Justice might refer to a court case or legal matter, and so on.

World of Psychics: If you are buying a deck, though, be guided by your intuition. The cards work through images, and images are the language of your intuition and psychic mind. It’s through the plethora of symbols, and in the case of the Thoth deck astrological references as well, that you will discover more about your own path and how to access the ancient wisdom the Tarot contains. The 78 cards can make you smile as time and time again the same things are suggested to you, as I have found out!

Complete Book of Tarot: Over the years the term divination has broadened to include any method that ‘attempts to foretell the future or to discern unknown matters, as though by supernatural means.’ 1 In this definition, the word ‘supernatural’ refers to methods that cannot be proved by the scientific method—that is, methods hard science cannot yet or perhaps never will be able to explain. Scientists regard such techniques as ‘pseudoscience’ because they fall outside the area of knowledge the scientific method is designed to explain. There can be little doubt that, together with practices like Freudian psychoanalysis, divination with tarot cards is one such pseudo-science. On the other hand, many individuals testify that they have benefited greatly from tarot readings as well as from sessions with a psychoanalyst.
