20-The Aeon – Reversed Thoth Deck

Your Chosen Card – The Aeon Reversed Thoth Deck

When reversed, the Judgment card suggests that you may not be heeding the call to wake up and change the direction of your life. If you reject this opportunity to become reanimated, you may end up stagnating and feel stuck in a rut. Perhaps your reluctance is due to fear of change, a sense of regret, or feelings of self-recrimination. Ponder the biblical verse: ‘Except a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone: but if it dies, it brings forth much fruit’ (John 12:24, King James 2000 Version).

Keywords Reversed: Sentencing, not heeding a call, self-recrimination, worry, regret, delay, shame, remorse, stagnation, isolation, bad karma, condemnation, vengeance, a negative judgment, clinging to old ways, remaining stuck in the past, postponing a matter until it’s too late, an unsatisfactory ending, failure to rise from one’s ashes; an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

Key XX: Judgment (Aeon)
Myths/Archetypes: The Last Judgment. The Angel of Resurrection. The Avenging Angel. The phoenix rising from its ashes. Persephone being rescued from the underworld. The Tooth Fairy.
Astrology: Fire (Pluto in some modern decks). Both the element Fire and the dwarf planet Pluto are associated with purgation, renewal, and purification.
Numerology: 2 (High Priestess) = 1 + 1 (Justice or Strength) = 2 + 0 (Judgment)

When The Aeon is reversed you can pretty much take it that life is going well but that’s when life takes us by surprise.  If The Aeon is unclear it may help to choose a card from the Major Arcana to provide more insight into what it is The Aeon is trying to tell you.  If you had a particular issue in  mind, or want to seek clarification on something else, you can also choose again to get more guidance.

Book Details
Complete Book of Tarot: My longstanding interest in astrology has prompted me to study the attributions of the Golden Dawn and their tarot associations to supplement my understanding of an astrological birth chart. The natal horoscope is simply a map of the heavens centered around one’s birthplace on Earth and calculated for the exact moment when you emerge as a separate individual from your mother’s womb.

Tarot Books

Complete Book of Tarot: As you read the above interpretations, keep in mind that these comments represent merely my own impressions in the context of the question. If you have other insights or gut feelings about how these cards may answer the question, your views are equally as valid as mine and deserve respect for the wisdom that they contain. Sir Francis Bacon (1561–1626) advised us always to pay attention to thoughts that come unbidden, for they are often the most valuable.

Complete Book of Tarot: The decision to use elemental dignities depends on the personality of the tarot reader. Some enjoy this kind of systematic quasi-mathematical reasoning when reading the cards; others find it burdensome and prefer to read intuitively. It’s a matter of taste and preference.

Tarot Triumphs: It’s important to keep this basic premise in mind and see the fundamental practicalities of Tarot reading as a foundation for our own forays into divination. We may study the deeper meanings, long history, and subtle nuances of the Tarot, but if we are going to give readings, the ultimate premise is that of question and answer. So, in this chapter, I invite you to begin as ‘fortune-teller,’ to consult the cards and obtain a reading in a similarly direct and simple way.
